Extra Income for Crafters: Organising a Craft Workshop in Your Home, Perfect for Working Mums

If you're a known crafter in your community, a great idea to earn more income is to organise a workshop right in your home. It doesn't require a lot of capital since you won't be renting out a venue, and it's a great opportunity to you to market yourself in the community.

Here are 5 steps to Organising your craft workshop at home:

Step 1: Decide what you want to teach. Beginners want to learn things that are easy and simple. Don't teach them how to knit a sweater on the first day. If they want to learn how to make a sweater eventually, start with small things first - teach them the basics of knitting, moving on to making small items, and eventually their much-coveted sweater.

Step 2: Decide how many people will be in a class. You can set up in your living room, in your backyard, or in your kitchen. Once you know where to hold your class, decide how many people can attend per session.

Step 3: Decide on your workshop fee. Decide whether or not you will be the one to provide the class with the materials or not. It's better if you do - that way you won't end up having students buying the wrong materials or forgetting their supplies at home that they'd end up borrowing from you or the other students. Get your supplies from a craft wholesaler to get the lowest prices. You can also add meals and snacks to your class fee. Making crafts is tiresome and takes hours - you wouldn't want to waste time by taking long breaks 'cause your students have to go to town to eat.

Step 4: Promote your class. You can use social networking sites, go to the community and give out fliers and posters, announce it to your craft group, and tell retail stores about it. You can also ask stores and restaurants to have your poster up on their store windows or ask schools if you can post on their bulletin boards.

Step 5: Before your classes start, create a display of crafts you've made that you want to sell. It's a great opportunity for you to not only market your classes, but to promote your craft business as well.

Organising a craft workshop at home is a simple but profitable way to earn extra income- try it out yourself and see where it could lead you. You never know, one class can lead to another, paving the way for a complete craft workshop business.
